The FCC has released a Public Notice soliciting comment on a petition requesting the commencement of rulemaking to revise the agency’s rules governing the exercise of retransmission consent.  The petition, which was jointly filed earlier this month by fourteen multichannel video programming distributors and consumer groups, argues that the current rules do not account for changes in the video programming distribution market.  The petition urges the Commission to consider adoption of various reforms, including interim carriage and dispute resolution mechanisms.

The deadline for comments is April 19, 2010; the deadline for replies is May 4, 2010.  We would be pleased to respond to any questions regarding this matter.
